The Glen - 2027

Black Site Media’s flagship Scottish production brings defence brands, manufacturers and industry partners together for a dedicated multi-day photography and film production in the Scottish Highlands.

Known as The Glen, the production combines experienced defence media crews, military models, vehicles, specialist equipment and access to thousands of acres of private Scottish terrain — creating an environment specifically built for producing authentic defence marketing content.

Rather than commissioning an entire location production independently, participating companies can join an established Black Site Media production and access the infrastructure, crew and locations already in place.

The next flagship production takes place in February 2027.

A Flagship Defence Photography & Film Production in Scotland

The Glen is not simply a photoshoot at one location.

It is a five-day production platform based in the Scottish Highlands, giving Black Site Media and participating clients the flexibility to work across a range of environments throughout the week.

Our private production base provides access to approximately 3,000 acres of Scottish terrain, while the wider Highlands become part of the production area when weather, light and conditions are right.

Woodland, open hills, tracks, shoreline, water, remote roads and mountainous landscapes allow multiple campaigns and visual styles to be created during a single production.

The Glen becomes the base.

The Highlands become the set.

Built for the Defence Industry

Black Site Media specialises in photography, film and content production for the defence, military, aerospace and tactical industries. The Glen has been built specifically around the requirements of those sectors. Productions can incorporate military clothing and equipment, tactical communications, optics, protective equipment, load carriage, weapon systems, vehicles and other specialist defence products within environments that allow them to be shown in context.

Instead of photographing equipment against generic backgrounds, we build scenarios around the product and the environment in which it is intended to operate. The result is a much broader library of commercially usable media from a single production.

Defence Photography in the Scottish Highlands

The Scottish Highlands provide something difficult to replicate within a conventional commercial production.

Scale.

Open terrain, rapidly changing weather, dramatic light and remote landscapes give defence brands the opportunity to create imagery that feels operational rather than staged.

During The Glen, our stills unit works alongside the wider production to create a combination of campaign photography, product imagery, environmental portraits, equipment details, action sequences and supporting content. Depending on the client brief, this can range from a focused collection of hero images through to a substantially larger image library designed to support marketing activity throughout the year.

Defence Video Production in Scotland

The Glen also provides a complete video production capability.

Black Site Media can create individual campaign films, product videos, short-form social content and extensive supporting B-roll during the production. Working across several days gives us considerably more freedom than a conventional single-day shoot.

Sequences can be planned around weather and available light rather than forcing the entire production into a fixed few hours.

When the conditions are right, we move. When conditions change, the production can move with them. This flexibility is one of the main reasons The Glen operates as a multi-day production.

One Production. Multiple Defence Brands.

The Glen operates using Black Site Media’s syndicate production model.

Multiple companies can participate in the overall production while receiving their own dedicated production time, creative direction and media deliverables.

The expensive infrastructure is shared…. The creative output is not.

Crew, models, locations, production management, logistics and specialist resources are already deployed for the week. Participating brands can therefore access a considerably larger production environment without individually funding the complete mobilisation required to create it.

Each company’s requirements are planned separately before the production.

This allows us to create individual scenarios, product combinations and visual identities while benefiting from the scale of the wider production.

3,000 Acres of Private Scottish Terrain

Our Scottish production base gives the crew access to approximately 3,000 acres of private land.

This provides significantly greater control than relying entirely on public locations.

Depending on the production brief and conditions, available environments can include:

  • Woodland and forest.

  • Open hills and exposed terrain.

  • Rural tracks and vehicle routes.

  • Water and shoreline environments.

  • Remote buildings and structures.

  • Mountain and Highland backdrops.

  • Open ground suitable for vehicle and equipment photography.

The private estate acts as our operational base, allowing the production to remain flexible throughout the week.

Reaching Further into the Scottish Highlands

The Glen gives us a secure production hub from which we can reach further into the Highlands when conditions justify it. If the weather opens over a particular area, we can deploy there. If another location is sitting under poor visibility, we can change the plan.

Locations such as Glencoe and the wider western Scottish Highlands can therefore become part of the production depending on the client brief, weather, logistics and permissions.

Rather than gambling an entire campaign on one location and one day, we have several days and multiple environments available.

Military Models & Production Support

Authentic defence content requires more than an impressive landscape.

Black Site Media works with experienced military models, including veterans and serving personnel where appropriate, who understand military equipment, movement and terminology. This significantly reduces the amount of direction required to make a scene believable.

The wider production can also incorporate wardrobe, tactical equipment, communications equipment, vehicles, props and specialist resources depending on the requirements of each participating company.

Everything is considered as part of the production rather than being added as an afterthought on the day.

Drone & Aerial Filming

The scale of the Scottish landscape makes aerial production an important part of The Glen.

Black Site Media’s drone capability can be integrated alongside ground photography and cinematography to capture establishing shots, vehicle movement, personnel moving through terrain and the wider scale of the operating environment.

Drone activity is planned around location restrictions, weather conditions, airspace requirements and the requirements of the individual production.

Join the Production in Scotland

Clients do not simply have to send equipment and wait for the results.

Participating companies can arrange to join Black Site Media during their allocated production period.

This gives marketing teams, product specialists and creative directors the opportunity to work directly with our production team, provide technical input and help shape how their equipment is represented.

For complex defence products, that access can be particularly valuable.

Nobody understands the product better than the company that designed and manufactured it.

Our job is to translate that knowledge into strong visual content.

What Can We Produce at The Glen?

A single production can generate content for multiple platforms and campaigns, including:

Campaign photography, defence product photography, hero imagery, lifestyle and in-use imagery, cinematic video, product films, social media content, vertical video, website imagery, advertising assets, exhibition graphics, PR imagery, recruitment content, dealer and distributor media, B-roll libraries and long-term marketing content.

The objective is not simply to return from Scotland with a handful of photographs.

It is to build a substantial media library that can continue working for the client long after the production has finished.

February 2027 Flagship Production

The next Black Site Media flagship production at The Glen is scheduled for February 2027.

The core production will operate across five days, with Black Site Media deploying the crew, models, equipment and production infrastructure required for the week.

Participation is limited because each company joining the production requires dedicated time within the schedule.

We therefore begin working with participating brands well before the production to establish products, objectives, deliverables and creative direction.
